Christ Lutheran was established by the Board of missions of the ELC, and the first services were held in Harvard Elementary School on August 12, 1956. Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Tacoma was the sponsoring congregation. Groundbreaking for the parsonage took place on September 16, 1956, and for the church and parish unit on November 4 of that year.
